    శివుడి మానసపుత్రుడు కాలభైరవుడు.బ్రహ్మ యొక్క అహాన్ని తగ్గించడంలో బ్రహ్మా యొక్క ఐదవ తలను ఖండిచడం వల్ల అతనికి బ్రహ్మ హత్యా మహాపాతకం తగలడం వల్ల దాన్ని పోగొట్టుకొనడం కోసం బిక్షాటన చేసి, కాశీకి వెళ్ళి అక్కడ విముక్తుడయ్యాడనికి, అప్పటి నుండి అక్కడే కాశీ క్షేత్రపాలకుడుగా ఉన్నాడని పురుణాలు చెబుతున్నాయి.

సాక్షాత్ పరమశివుడే కొలువైన క్షేత్రం కాశీ క్షేత్రం. ఆ క్షేత్రానికి క్షేత్రపాలకుడు కాలభైరవుడు. పరమశివుడి మానస పుత్రుడే ఈ కాలభైరవుడు. బ్రహ్మణే సంహరించిన శక్తి శాలీ. దుష్టశక్తులకు సింహ స్వప్నం. మనసారా నమ్మనివారికి కొంగుబారాన్ని అందించే కాలభైరవుడు.

 ఈశ్వరుడు ఆయుష్షుని ప్రసాదిస్తాడు. ఆయనకు పరమ విధేయుడైన కాలభైరవుడిని ఆరాదిస్తే ఆయుష్షు పెరుగుతుందని ప్రతీతి.

సాధారణంగా భైరవుడు భయంకరాకారుడుగా ఉంటాడు. రౌద్రనేత్రాలు, పదునైన దంతాలు, మండే వెంట్రుకలు, దిగంబరాకారం, పుర్రెల దండ, నాగాభరణం ఉంటాయి. నాలుగు చేతులలో పుర్రె, డమరుకం, శూలం, ఖడ్గం ఉంటాయి.

దుష్ట గ్రహబాధలు నివారించగల శక్తి మంతుడు రక్షాదక్షుడు ఈ కాలభైరవుడు.కాలస్వరూపం తెలిసిన వాడు.కాలంలాగే తిరుగులేనివాడు. ఎంత వ్యయమైనా తరిగిపోని వాడు. శాశ్వతుడు, నిత్యుడు కాలభైరవుడు.

భక్తిశ్రద్ధలతో కొలిచే వారు "ఓం కాలాకాలాయ విద్మహే కాలాతీతాయ ధీమహే తన్నో కాలభైరవ ప్రచోదయాత్‌" అని ప్రార్థిస్తారు.

గ్రహబలాలను అధిగమించి అదృష్ట జీవితాన్ని,సంకల్ప సిద్ధిని పొందడం భైరవ ఉపాసనతో సాధ్యమని శాస్త్రాలు చెబుతున్నాయి.

కాలభైరవుడిని కాశీ క్షేత్ర పాలకుడిగా కీర్తించారు. ఏది సాధించాలన్నా ముందుగా ఆయన అనుమతి తీసుకోవాలని కాశీక్షేత్ర మహిమ చెబుతుంది.

సాక్షాత్తు శివుడే కాలభైరవుడే సంచరించాడని శాస్త్రాలు చెబుతున్నాయి.
