#కర్పూరం అనేది మనకి తెలిసినంత వరకు సుగంధం గానూ, కొన్ని వంటకాలలోనూ, హిందువులు తమ పూజా కార్యక్రమాలలో దేవునికి హారతి ఇవ్వడానికి ఉపయోగిస్తారు. ఇది మైనములా తెల్లగానూ, పారదర్శకం గానూ ఉండే ఒక ఘాటైన వాసన గల పూజా ద్రవ్యము.

ఇది రసాయనాలతో కృత్రిమంగా తయారయింది అనుకుంటారు చాలామంది. కానీ, కర్పూరం చెట్టు నుండి ఉత్పత్తి అవుతుంది అన్నది అక్షర సత్యం.  కర్పూరం కాంఫర్ లారెల్ లేదా సిన్నమొముం క్యాంఫొర (కుటుంబం: లారేసీ ) అనే చెట్టు నుండి లభ్యమవుతుంది.

కర్పూరాన్ని ఆ చెట్ల ఆకులు, కొమ్మలనుండి తయారు చేస్తారు. అలాగే కొన్ని రకాలైన తులసి (కర్పూర తులసి) జాతుల నుండి కూడా కర్పూరాన్ని తయారుచేస్తారు. కర్పూర చెట్ల కాండం మీద గాట్లు పెడతారు. ఆ గాట్ల లోంచి పాలు వస్తాయి. ఆ పాలతో కర్పూరం తయారౌతుంది. కర్పూరం చెట్టు వంద అడుగుల వరకూ పెరిగే సుందరమైన నిత్య హరిత వృక్షం. చక్కని సువాసన కలిగిన పట్ట కలిగి ఉంటుంది. ఆకులు పొడవుగా ఉండి ఫిబ్రవరి, మార్చి నెలల్లో రాలతాయి. పువ్వులు చిన్నవిగా ఉంటాయి.. పండ్లు ముదురు ఆకుపచ్చని రంగులో ఉండి అక్టోబర్‌లో పక్వానికి వస్తాయి. ఈ చెట్లు చైనా, జపాన్ దేశాల్లో విస్తారంగా పెరుగుతాయి. మన దేశంలో వీటిని నీలగిరి కొండల్లో పెంచుతారు. అలాగే మైసూర్‌ లోనూ, మలబార్ ప్రాంతంలోనూ కర్పూరం చెట్లు కనిపిస్తాయి.

కర్పూరం చాలా రకాలుగా ఉంటాయి. ఒక్కో రకం ఒక్కో విధంగా మనకి ఉపయోగ పడుతుంది.

#పచ్చ_కర్పూరం: కర్పూరం చెట్టు వేర్లు, మాను, కొమ్మలను నీళ్లలో వేసి మరిగించి, డిస్టిలేషన్ పద్ధతిలో సేకరించే కర్పూరాన్ని పచ్చకర్పూరం అంటారు. దీనిని ఔషధ ప్రయోగాలకు వాడుకోవచ్చు. దీనిని ఎక్కువగా వంటలలో వాడతారు. కాటుకని ఈ పచ్చ కర్పూరం తోనే చేస్తారు. అంజనం వేయడానికి కూడా దీనినే వాడతారు.

#హారతి_కర్పూరం: టర్పంటైన్ నుంచి రసాయనిక ప్రక్రియ ద్వారా తయారుచేసే కృత్రిమ కర్పూరాన్ని హారతి కర్పూరం (C10H16O) అంటారు. దీనిని ఔషధ ప్రయోగాలకు వాడకూడదు.

#రస_కర్పూరం: చిన్న పిల్లలకి ఒంట్లో ఉన్న దోషాలు పోవడానికి ఆముదంతో కలిపి కర్పూరం పట్టిస్తారు. దానిని రస కర్పూరం అంటారు.

#భీమసేని_కర్పూరం: సహజముగా మొక్క నించి తయారుగా లభించే కర్పూరాన్ని భీమసేని కర్పూరం లేదా అపక్వ కర్పూరం అంటారు. దీనిని ఔషధ ఉపయోగాల కోసం విరివిగా వాడుతూ ఉంటారు.

కర్పూరం వలన అసంఖ్యాకమైన ఆరోగ్య ఉపయోగాలు ఉన్నాయి. ఆయుర్వేద చికిత్సలో కర్పూరాన్ని ఎక్కువగా ఉపయోగిస్తారు. అసలు కర్పూర సువాసన పీలిస్తే చాలు శారీరక రుగ్మతలన్నీ పోయినట్లు, సేద తీరినట్లు ఉంటుంది. మానసిక ప్రశాంతత చేకూరుతుంది. కొన్ని ముఖ్యమయిన ఆరోగ్య లాభాలు:
